Weighty Matters Blog: Junk Food Fundraisers Shouldn't be Required

We love following the Weighty Matters blog where Ottawa-based physician, professor, and author, Yoni Freedhoff, takes a look at nutrition, health, diet, science, fitness, and other excellent health advice and interesting musings.

One of the topics that has been regularly highlighted on the blog are the various junk food fundraisers that are often promoted, ironically, in conjunction with ostensibly healthy activities. A case of one step forward, two steps back.

Recently, one reader wrote in to share how participating in a junk food fundraiser was a requirement to join a bowling league. Another recent post details how some schools push unhealthy junk food fundraising programs that only raise a small amount of funds.

Once again, like Dr. Freedhoff has done in a past blog post, FundScrip was offered as a fundraising alternative that is more effective, and nutritionally neutral, offering participants the freedom to choose what food and products they consume.

And finally, if you're more auditorily inclined, take a listen to Dr. Freedhoff's Weighty Matters podcast where he succinctly breaks down the various intricacies of the junk food fundraising issue, and how one easy fundraising idea is to use FundScrip as a healthy fundraising alternative!
