How to Use Social Media to Get Supporters

Every year, we do a survey among our users to help us make our program better. In our most recent one, we noticed that group administrators seem to find it difficult to get new supporters. Sometimes it’s hard to change people’s habits, even for a good cause.

A good way to get potential supporters and to make sure your members order regularly is through social media. Today, most people use social media; it’s a great way to reach your community. Using social media is pretty easy and will bring attention to your fundraising campaign.

The following survey by Forum Research Inc shows that Facebook is still the most popular social media platform. We suggest you start with Facebook!

Create a Facebook page or use your group’s page

In order to make your page visible to all, we suggest you create a page and not a group. A group is only used when you want the information to be secret or private. Tip: use a name that represents your group and that is easy to find.

Use an existing Facebook page if your school or non-profit organization already has one, that way you’ll benefit from communicating with your existing community.

Tell people about it

If you see your members in person or you go to events in your community, don’t be afraid to tell them about your page, people will be intrigued! It will be easy for them to find your page and learn more about your project. You should also put a specific section on your website that links to your Facebook page.

Update your page regularly

If you want to make sure your members order regularly and talk about your project, update your page regularly! Post event pictures, showcase your campaign results and share the FundScrip monthly promotions with your supporters; they will feel more involved with the project.

Listen to comments

Ask questions to your followers and listen to their answers. Not sure if you should send them a monthly newsletter? Ask them on Facebook!

Social media is a very powerful tool to share a message, a cause or a campaign, use it!
