What Could a Canada Post Strike Mean for Your FundScrip Group?

As negotiations continue between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), a potential strike is anticipated to begin as the current collective agreement ceases to be in effect as of May 22, 2025. While many groups would not be affected by a strike, some fundraising groups with specific configurations may experience delays in the delivery of their Direct Shipping gift card orders. Please review the recommendations below to determine how your FundScrip group should proceed.

Groups That Use Group Shipping

If the administrators of your fundraising group place group orders, the strike will not affect any deliveries. Continue to place orders as you normally would. These orders are shipped via courier service, not Canada Post.

Groups That Use Direct Shipping

If the supporters of your fundraising group place orders for themselves and use Direct Shipping via Canada Post Lettermail™ or Xpresspost™, the following three options are available to them.

  1. Continue Using Direct Shipping: If you simply continue using Direct Shipping, FundScrip will hold your order for the duration of the strike. Once the strike ends, it will be mailed via Canada Post Lettermail™ or Xpresspost™ to the address of your choice.
  2. Use Group Ordering: Consider changing the configuration of the group to allow for administrators to place group orders during a strike. Contact your FundScrip fundraising consultant for more details or to make changes to your shipping preferences.
  3. Use Electronic and Reloadable Gift Cards: Take advantage of the 188 eGift Card brands in the FundScrip catalogue. Learn more about ordering and redeeming eGift cards from FundScrip, or view our eGift card catalogue. If you already have a reloadable gift card in your possession, additional funds can be added to the card from the FundScrip Wallet. Learn more about reloadable gift cards from FundScrip.

FundScrip will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available. You can also find updates on Canada Post negotiations at https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/our-company/news-and-media/corporate-news/negotiations-list.page.
