How to Motivate and Engage Your Supporters

Check out these three ways to engage and motivate your supporters throughout the entire campaign.

Create an online community for your group to interact and share their ideas

Communication is one of the keys to a successful fundraising campaign. As a campaign administrator, you may benefit from your supporters sharing tips or advice, and you will want to respond to the feedback and send updates or other news about your campaign Encourage supporters to use social media, email, messaging applications, or the FundScrip messaging system where fundraising administrators can message supporters directly or altogether in a group broadcast. Depending on what type of fundraising group you’re running, that may inform your choice of communication method you choose (you’ll have more chance to connect with the millennials using social media).

Keep supporters updated on the fundraising progress and share how the money raised will be used

Let your supporters know the outcome of their hard work. If it’s an annual event or program, invite these supporters back every year. If your group meets in person regularly, affix a progress poster to the wall and fill in the thermometer as your campaign progresses. Make sure you clearly state what you’re raising the funds for.

Send fundraising progress updates via your preferred communications method and celebrate those supporters who raise the most in order to gently nudge those supporters who have yet to participate fully. Celebrate the group’s major milestones. Supporters will likely be excited when they reach their goal. Capitalize on this opportunity to thank them and share your potential future plans for the next fundraising campaign.

Hold fundraising events as a complement to your FundScrip campaigns

FundScrip works well both over a long period of time, and as a part of an in-person fundraising event. Additionally, FundScrip plays nice with other forms of event-based fundraising. Sell gift cards in person while you run a more traditional fundraising event like a car wash, fundraising dinner, or run an auction. Focus on organizing events that raise the most money for the least amount of work. For example, happy hours generally outperform bake sales. Meeting in person is also a great opportunity to bring your supporters together, teach them how to fundraise and share success stories. Show supporters how to raise money, acknowledge challenges they’ll likely face, and be clear about the impact their donations will have on your mission. It’s also a great opportunity to say thanks and connect them to your mission and encourage future participation.
